Obesity is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health.”

Obesity is defined by the Obesity Medicine Association as a “chronic, relapsing, multi-factorial, neurobehavioral disease, wherein an increase in body fat promotes adipose tissue dysfunction and abnormal fat mass physical forces, resulting in adverse metabolic, biomechanical, and psychosocial health consequences.”
The CDC uses body mass index (BMI), or a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of their height in meters, to measure obesity. Individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered to have obesity. BMI can be used as an initial tool to screen for obesity, but it does have limitations.
What is Obesity and how is it treated?
Medical Weight Management: the ultimate goal is to get healthy; not just to lose pounds.
Medical Weight Management Plan
Our Medical Weight Management Plan is a comprehensive weight loss program, guided by the Obesity Medicine Association, designed to help you obtain and maintain a healthy weight. Our Certified Nurse Practitioner provides guidance and treatment, based on medical scientific evidence, which targets the root cause of obesity and weight gain. This program consists of 12 visits over a 3-month period. Individualized services include nutritional counseling, psychological assessments, meal replacement programs, physical activity prescriptions, and FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, when necessary. There are no guarantees that you will reach your desired weight and results may vary with each individual.
